After the theft:
finding a path to answers.

A review of reporting, response and access to records following the October 2026 theft from a Peak HVAC work van.

Status: evidence reviewUpdated: October 20, 2026Material findings not yet published

The scope of this review

Peak HVAC reports that business tools and materials were taken from a work van in Denver overnight on October 11–12, 2026. The review concerns the response that followed: reporting, submission of identifying information, recovery-related leads and access to public records.

The business reports disruption and financial losses. The extent, documentation and legal responsibility for those losses are separate questions. This overview does not accuse an individual of a crime or establish that an agency caused the theft.

Relationship disclosure

The project’s founder is connected to Peak HVAC. This is our first case. That connection is material to the review and is disclosed here. Independent editorial review is required before adverse findings are published.

Questions the review will examine

  • How was the original report classified, handled and followed through?
  • What documented actions followed identifying information and recovery-related leads?
  • What records requests were accepted, what did replies address, and what remains unresolved?
  • Which barriers reflect a documented policy, an individual decision or an unresolved fact?
  • What practical improvements could help other residents and businesses?

What the record can establish

Source collection includes business-submitted material, insurance correspondence and records-request correspondence. Those categories do not independently establish every allegation within them. Private emails, unredacted attachments and confidential source identities are not published here.

The evidence review identified a Civil Liability manager’s October 20 statement that she reviewed the camera-request correspondence. Earlier uncertainty about whether any manager reviewed it must therefore be updated. That does not establish a review of the theft investigation.

The published case will identify supporting releasable records, responses and limits after review. This is a scope overview rather than a completed investigation.
