Community experiences
People affected by crime can identify barriers that statistics alone may miss: how to submit a lead, whether a report was updated, where to ask for a review and what happens next.
Our reporting framework separates a participant’s account from independently supported facts. Participation does not promise an investigation, legal representation or recovery of property.
Public records & response
We examine the records behind public decisions: request handling, response policies, documented actions and unanswered questions. A records request, a receipt and a substantive answer are different things.
Research should explain both the evidence and its limits. We do not treat a delay, a missing document or a disagreement as proof of misconduct.
Good police work
Accountability includes identifying service that deserves recognition. Our proposed recognition program covers officers, investigators, dispatchers and teams whose work is supported by records or corroborated accounts.
Recognition is never sold. A nomination is not an award. Individuals and agencies receive a fair opportunity to confirm facts before a feature is published.
Case reviews
Case reviews connect individual experiences to questions with wider public relevance. We distinguish the original crime from later response and recovery issues, and avoid assuming that the same explanation applies across incidents.
